…or “how you could have saved money by pre-ordering MW3“
As you probably know, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 just came out (with a release date of Nov. 8, 2011, in the U.S.). You may have also heard that it was the highest earning video game release in history, breaking over $775 million in sales in the first five days. But you may have missed several promotions Amazon ran for those who pre-ordered the game.
Announced Pre-Order Promotions for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
If you had gone to the Amazon page for Modern Warfare 3 prior to the release date, you would have seen that Amazon was running several promotions to generate sales:
- Of course, the standard Amazon Release-Date Delivery and Pre-Order Price Guarantee were available.
- A $2 credit towards for the purchase of The Greatest Video Game Music album
- Amazon exclusive American Special Forces avatar (both male and female)
- An exclusive MW3 wallpaper
- A $10 promotional credit towards the purchase of a Turtle Beach Call of Duty: MW3 Ear Force gaming Headset
These promotions are okay, but I wouldn’t say that they are ideal for maximum results with the Video Game Pre-Order Madness System. What really increased the value of this release was a promotion that for whatever reason wasn’t announced very well.
The “Secret” Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Pre-Order Promotion
The day after release, I got an email from Amazon telling me that my pre-order qualified for another promotion: $25 off a 12-month Xbox Live Gold Subscription renewal. Normally priced at $59.99, that’s a 41.6% discount!
I would have needed to renew my subscription anyway, so in essence, this was a $25 discount on doing something that I was going to do anyway.
