Not So Fast: Xbox 360 Cloud Storage Still in the Works

July 7, 2011 By SLee Leave a Comment

Eurogamer.net recently ran a story titled “Xbox 360 Cloud Storage Now Live.” As you can see in the screenshot, they have pulled the article down, but not before being indexed by Google, Technorati, and other sites. If you search for Xbox 360 Cloud Storage, there’s a good chance you will come across this lovely 404 page.

Not So Fast: Xbox 360 Cloud Storage Still in the Works

While the Xbox 360 cloud storage isn’t quite available for use yet, it is being anticipated by others besides Eurogamer. The cloud feature will allow gamers to save their gaming data (which reportedly will include information about played games, achievements, friends lists, Microsoft points balances, and more) remotely, protecting against data loss in case of console failure and allowing gamertags to be quickly accessed from other consoles.

The Xbox 360 Cloud Storage service will help Microsoft keep up with the PlayStation Network, which has been providing a cloud service to PSN users since March, however Nintendo is still without a comparable service. Xbox’s Cloud Storage is reportedly set for release concurrent with an update to the Xbox 360 interface sometime in the next few months.

Duke Nukem Forever “The Lady Killer” Walkthrough

July 6, 2011 By SLee Leave a Comment

This walkthrough for Duke Nukem Forever Chapter 5: “The Lady Killer” will show you how to complete the fifth chapter of Duke Nukem Forever, unlock three achievements, and get your ego cap reward.

The Lady Killer: Part 1

After the Mothership Battle, Duke escaped through a ventilation shaft. Continue to the end of the shaft to start the Lady Killer. Punch out the vent cover and jump out onto the elevator roof. A woman in the elevator will whine for a minute, and then the elevator will start to fall. Use the illuminated lever to the right to brake the elevator and slow it down as it falls down the elevator shaft. Even though he’s strong, Duke can’t hold the brake the entire time the elevator is falling, so you’ll have to pull on it for a little bit, let Duke rest, then pull on it again until the elevator gets to the bottom.

When the elevator finally stops, jump down into the elevator. The door will be jammed, so you’ll have to force your way through it. As you make your way through, you will be shrunk by a shrinking thing on the floor.

Walk to the right, and a kid will ask you if you are a toy. After your brief conversation with him, an on-screen instruction will remind you that Duke can push wheeled objects and then the cart that is blocking your way will start glowing. Push it out of the way and walk around the debris to find the boy, his mother, and a remote control car.

Being shrunk, Duke is now small enough to ride around in the remote control car. Climb aboard and start driving. Drive straight ahead and use the fallen sign in front of you as a ramp to jump over some more debris. Be sure to use your turbo boost (“A” on Xbox 360) to make the jump. Turn left after the jump and continue down the hallway. Some aliens will be shrinking / killing civilians, but as little Duke it’s not very safe for you to take on full-sized aliens, so just keep following the hallway, driving around the aliens.

Go under the partially closed gate and into a larger room. Follow the hallway around counter-clockwise, jumping over debris and dodging aliens as needed, until you cannot continue in that direction any further. Behind you will be another sign that you can use as a ramp to jump down to the lower level. Continue clock-wise around this level until you find a staircase that will take you to the bottom level.

A crevice in the floor to your right as you come down the stairs will prevent you from easily going where you would like to. Go around the fountain in the middle carefully so as not to fall in the crevice. Go around to the left to find another poster to use as a ramp. Back up as far as you can from the ramp, and then use your turbo to jump over the crevice.

When you land on the other side, a gate will open enough for you to drive under it. Continue down the hallway and to the right until you get to the next room. The debris will make you go around counter-clockwise at first, and then some more debris will steer you up the stairs toward the center of the room. Take the poster ramp over to get to the other side of the debris and continue counter-clockwise to find another partially opened gate.

When you go through the gate, turn right and there will be some more alien-on-civilian violence. Speed past the alien using another poster ramp to get to the next room. Turn left in this room to go down some shallow stairs. Circle counter-clockwise around the statue and take the ramp over the debris. Go up the stairs on the other side to another hallway. Turn right and then left to see some more ramps. Jump these ramps over the crevice and continue down the hallway. Turn right after the jump to start The Lady Killer: Part 2.

The Lady Killer: Part 2

When Part 2 loads, continue through the partially opened gate to find some more fighting. You are still small, so you should evade the attackers. It’s best not to get stuck in the recessed area of the floor in the center of the room; go up the left or right side of the room instead and go under another gate on the other side. Take the hallway to the left, and you’ll find a gate that is too low for you to drive under. Get out of the remote control car and walk under the gate.

Duke will kindly tell you that you need to find a way to raise the gate. No problem. Directly in front of you is a roulette table with some suitcases piled next to it. Jump up on top of the suitcases and on to the roulette table. Run and jump from the roulette table over to the fallen machines next to it. From there jump to the stool, which will help you bounce over to the craps table. Walk across the craps table and up the casino chips so that you can jump to the next stool and bounce to the next craps table. Walk to the other end of that craps table, climb the chips, and jump onto the couch by the wall. The couch will help you bounce up onto the ledge behind it. There are some rats in the plants there that you can either shoot or punch. Take the ledge back towards the gate you walked through to find the switch to open it all the way.

When the gate is opened, jump down and get back in your remote control car. Use the poster ramp next to the roulette table that you first climbed on to jump over another crevice in the floor. When you get to the other side, turn left to find another poster ramp leaning against another table. Jump the ramp to get over some debris and continue through another gate.

In this last stretch there are a lot of berserking pig cops. You can try to shoot them if you are feeling brave, but since your still small, it will probably be easier to just try to drive around them. Use the poster ramp in this room to jump some more debris. Then continue into a hallway with another ramp that you will have to turbo jump to traverse another crevice. Duke will wreck his car in this jump, but that’s okay because you don’t need it anymore. There will be another gate that you have to open.

Walk over to the gate to speak with the soldier, who tells you that there is a particle expander on the other side of the gate; you just have to figure out how to get the gate open. The switch to open the gate is on the wall to your left. There is some furniture that gets pretty close to the switch, but just not close enough to actually reach it. It’s painfully frustrating to try reaching it that way over and over only to realize that there’s another way. If you remember, you Duke can push objects that roll. Close to where the remote control car wrecked, there is an overturned vase. Push that vase over to where the switch is, with the larger side towards the wall, then climb up the vase to get to the switch.

After you get the gate open, walk through to the twins: the particle expander is on the ground between them. When you are full-sized again, you can break the case in front of Duke’s portrait to get a shotgun, but remember if you are trying to unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Gunslinger Achievement, you will need to hold on to your gold pistol.

After you grab the shotgun, some aliens will invade. Fight off all the aliens, and then the twins start to celebrate your victory. Out of no where, some more aliens show up and kidnap the twins. Duke is pissed off and seeking vengeance.

Go back to the gate you opened to get into this room and force your way through it. Then go back through the hallways the way that you came in. Keep your ears on because as you are going through the hallways, berserking pig cops will attack you. For the most part they come up from behind, so listen carefully, and if you hear them grunting, take them out with the shotgun.

When you get to the end of the first hallway, you’ll be in a room with a lot of slot machines. An alien ship will come and drop off some aliens through a hole in the ceiling. Kill all the aliens. When they are all dead, the gate you need to go through will be glowing, but before you go through it, look for the functioning slot machine on the column closest to the gate. Play this slot machine until you win to get the ego cap reward for the Lady Killer, giving you an addition +2 ego points. After you win, continue through the gate.

Navigate your way around the burning crevice in the floor of the next room and through the gate. On the other side you will find a room with slot machines down the sides, and there will be a bottle of steroids directly in front of you. There is another bottle on the opposite side of the structure there as well. Feel free to take these steroids and pummel the aliens that start attacking you. TDuke Nukem Forever: Duke Angry, Duke Smash! Achievementhere are quite a few of them, so if you are able to kill them while on the juice, the number you kill here plus the ones you killed in the Duke Cave should get you to 15, which will unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Duke Angry, Duke Smash! Achievement for 20 gamer points. Force your way through the glowing gate, follow the hallway, and jump over the crevice in the floor to continue to the Lady Killer: Part 3.

The Lady Killer: Part 3

When the Lady Killer: Part 3 finally loads, continue through the rooms and hallways in a more-or-less linear fashion, killing any aliens you come across. After the second hallway, you will come into a more open room with a model of Duke in the center of some burning buildings.

You have to use the yellow control box by the stairs to move the model of Duke in such a way that you can climb up to the next level. Use the left stick to rotate Duke and raise his left arm. When Duke is in position. Pull your right trigger to lower the buildings so that you can jump on. Walk around the buildings counter-clockwise and climb up onto the Duke model. Then climb up his raised arm to get up to the next level.

When you get up to the next level, head to your right toward the illuminated door. When you are approaching a pig cop will burst out and start shooting you with a shotgun. Be sure to get him first. Then continue into the door and throught the vent to get to the next area. When you get out on the other side, there will be an EDF crate to your left and a pig cop setting some trip mines to your right. If you are fast enough, you can shoot the trip mines and kill the pig cop. Otherwise, advance towards them and follow the on-screen instructions about using and avoiding trip mines. Follow those trip mine instructions as you continue through this hallway, killing any aliens you find along the way.

When you get to the end of the hallway, you will see a door with an emergency exit sign above it. On a shelf to your right, you will find some supplies, including fresh trip mines. Duke Nukem Forever Sticky Bomb Like You! AchievementYou can use these trip mines as soon as you go through the door to unlock another achievement. Stick a trip mine on a living alien (which would include the berserking pig cops that are attacking you here) to unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Sticky Bomb Like You! Achievement for 10 gamer points.

After you kill all the pig cops, go into the room at the end of the hallway. Duke Nukem Forever FBT AchievementThere will be a flying assault commander that you will have to kill to finish the Lady Killer. Sometimes he will fly at you and knock you down. If you do this carefully so that he doesn’t kill you, let him knock you down 10 times to unlock the Duke Nukem Forever FBT Achievement for 10 gamer points. Before you attempt this, make sure you kill any pig cops that may be lurking around. After you kill the assault commander, go out the doors to end the chapter.

Duke Nukem Forever “Mothership Battle” Walkthrough

July 6, 2011 By SLee 4 Comments

This walkthrough for Duke Nukem Forever Chapter 4: “Mothership Battle” will show you how to complete the fourth chapter of Duke Nukem Forever and unlock 2 achievements. There are no ego cap rewards for this chapter.

In chapter 3, Duke ascended from the Duke Cave aboard his anti-aircraft cannon. Almost all of chapter 4 is spent atop this cannon as you help Duke shoot down the alien invaders’ space craft.

While it may seem simple to shoot down these space craft, here are some tips to help you complete the Mothership Battle.

Your main objective, as the title of the chapter indicates, is to shoot down the mothership. Like on Independence Day, there is some sort of shield protecting the ship, so the only way to damage it is to shoot something that is not protected. That something is the gun turret directly in front of you. Whenever you have the chance, shoot this turret to damage the mothership.

While you are fighting through this chapter, dropships will come and drop off jet-pack sporting aliens who will attack you. Deal with them before you continue your attack on the mothership, otherwise they will kill you and you will have to start over.

Also beware of alien fighters. Sometimes they come one at a time and sometimes they come in formations of three. When they attack you in packs of three, be sure to take out the center one, as the center one is the one that will be attacking you; the other two just go around you on either side.

A final tip is to watch your anti-aircraft cannon’s heat level. There is a status bar in the bottom-center of the screen that will fill from left to right as the heat of the cannon increases. Right before it overheats there will also be a warning buzzer. It is important to not let the cannon overheat because it takes longer for it to cool down to a reusable temperature after overheating than if you had just taken a brief break in your attack before it overheats.

Duke Nukem Forever Baron von Nukem AchievementDuke Nukem Forever Big Guns, Big Ships AchievementAs for the achievements, the Mothership Battle is a great place in Duke Nukem Forever to unlock two achievements. “Blow up 5 enemy gunships or dropships” to unlock the Big Guns, Big Ships Achievement for 10 gamer points. Also, if you “shoot down 20 alien fighters,” you will unlock the Baron von Nukem Achievement for 20 gamer points. If you don’t get these achievements the first time through, you can always replay the chapter to get them at a later time.

After you destroy the mothership, the roof you are on will collapse, and Duke falls back into the shaft that he ascended from. Find the glowing vent cover and punch through it to make an opening. Go into the ventilation shaft (it’s dark so you might need to use your Duke Vision). If you want to see some girls, turn right at the fan and follow the shaft to the end. Otherwise, you would turn left at the fan and continue straight. Some people below will see you and talk about how you are going to save them. Go all the way to the second fan and turn left. Walk all the way to the end of the section to drop down to another shaft. Walk to the end of that shaft to end the chapter.

Duke Nukem Forever “The Duke Cave” Walkthrough

July 5, 2011 By SLee Leave a Comment

This walkthrough for Duke Nukem Forever Chapter 3: “The Duke Cave” will show you how to complete the third chapter of Duke Nukem Forever, unlock 4 achievements, and find all the ego cap rewards.

At the end of Chapter 2, Duke descended into his cave from his throne above. After the conference call from the President, there’s an alarm of an alien invasion. Head out the door behind the throne that you came in on to see what’s going on.

Go out the door and turn left to try to go out the second door. There will be an alien reaching through, and it will hurt you if you are too close when it is striking. Stay back when it is striking, and run up and hit it in between its strikes. Eventually, you will beat the alien to death. Then you have to force the door open by following the on-screen instructions.

Duke Nukem Forever Downtown Barrel BeatdownWhen you get through the door, there will be the alien you just killed and several of Duke’s trophies on the ground. You are still unarmed, but you can pick up the trophies (“X” on the Xbox 360 controller) and throw them at enemies to hurt and / or kill them. If you kill 10 aliens with thrown objects, you will unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Downtown Barrel Beatdown Achievement for 15 gamer points. There are many throwable objects on this level, so it is a good place to unlock this achievement.

As you curve around the first hallway, you should come up on an alien whose back is turned. Kill it and then go through the door on the left. There are two aliens in Duke’s gym. Kill them, and then get ready for some ego cap rewards:

  • Pick up and curl a handbell weight for +2 ego points.
  • Put all the weights onto the bench press (there will be 3 weights on each side) and bench press the weights for +3 ego points.
  • Punch the body bag for +1 ego point.
  • Punch the speed bag for +1 ego point.
  • Score a goal with a basketball for +1 ego point.
  • Score 300,000 points on the pinball machine for +3 ego points.

After collecting all the ego cap rewards, go to the glowing vent on the wall and tear it off. Crouch down and enter the ventilation system to continue through the Duke Cave. To navigate the ventilation system, take your first right (you will see an alien crawl by in the direction that you should go). Take that section straight until you come to T. Turn left at the T, and follow the vent as it curves to the right. Then make a hard right, and go out of the open vent cover in front of you.

You come out of the vent into another hallway, and you pick up a beer right away. Don’t drink it now because you need it to unlock an achievement in a few minutes. Use whatever objects you can find to throw and kill the onslaught of aliens. Then continue up the hallway and through the door on the left.

In this section, some aliens will drop from the ceiling. After you kill them, there will be a power failure, and you have to use your Duke Vision (press up on the D-pad for Xbox 360). With your Duke Vision on, force open the door past the aliens you killed. When you are through, turn left and hop onto the pipes.

Turn right and walk down the pipes, crouching under overhanging pipes. When you reach the wall, turn right and continue down. Jump over the low-hanging pipes and turn right again. Then jump down onto the next layer of ventilation. Turn 180 degrees and walk along the ventilation shaft you are on, and turn left when you get to the end. Hop over a pipe onto some more pipes, walk to the end, and jump down to the next level of pipes. From there you can jump to the floor and kill the aliens in that room.

Force through the only door in that room and kill the alien on the other side. Turn right at the intersecting hallways and force through that door to kill two more aliens. After you kill them, find the glowing vent (it will be directly opposite the door your forced your way through). Punch through the vent cover, crouch down, and jump into the vent.

When you get to the bottom of the vent, circle over and around the pipes to get to the opening, which is blocked with trash cans (more throwable objects). Kill the aliens in this room. As you move forward and to the left, you will see two trash cans that are stacked up and supporting a pipe. Move those trash cans so that the end of the pipe falls down. Walk up the fallen end of the pipe past the midway point, and the pipe will raise up like a see-saw. When the end you walked up is in the air, run across it and jump onto the pipe in front of you. Walk all the way up that pipe, turn left, and go back into the ventilation system. At the end of the vent, punch out the cover and kill the alien in front of you.

In the room you are now in, you have to find and replace three energy cells back into the main reactor. The cells are only available one at a time, though. The first one will be to your left as you first come out of the vent, on top of a crate. When you collect it, place it into the reactor directly in front of you. Turn to your left, and the next energy cell will be on the crates by the wall, however you may need to kill another alien before you get to it. Place the second energy cell in the reactor.

After placing the second energy cell, some aliens will come out and try to kill you. Kill them instead, and go out the only working door in the room. Kill the aliens in that room, and continue through the next door. In this room, you will find a remote controller for a remote control car that you can see through the glass. You have to use the remote control car to push the last energy cell out of the vent on the far left side of the miniature obstacle course.

Duke Nukem Forever Substance Abuser AchievementWhen you get the energy cell out of the vent, pick it up and take it back to the room with the reactor in it. Replace the energy cell, and you will be rewarded with some steroids. If you saved your beer, like I told you to, you can now take both the beer and the steroids to unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Substance Abuser Achievement for 10 gamer points, the Duke Nukem Forever Duke Nukem Forever Flagon of Chuckles AchievementFlagon of Chuckles Achievement for 5 gamer points, and the Duke Nukem Forever Duke Nukem Forever Juiced AchievementJuiced Achievement for 5 gamer points. All the aliens you now kill while under the influence of steroids will count towards your 15-alien total that’s needed to unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Duke Angry, Duke Smash Achievement; however, there aren’t enough aliens in this room to unlock that achievement yet.

After you kill the aliens in the reactor room, a door will open and two berserking pig cops will run out at you, so be ready. When you kill the pig cops, head through the door they came from and down the hallway. At the end of the hallway, you will receive another verbal warning from your computerized Duke Cave and a gun rack descends from the ceiling. This gun rack is holding Duke‘s Gold Pistol. This is the pistol that you must carry through the entire single-player campaign in order to unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Gunslinger Achievement (it’s 50 gamer points for unlocking this achievement, by the way, so it might be worth the trouble).

After you get your gun, walk through the door in front of you. There will be more aliens in this hallway. Kill them as you continue through the hallway. Take cover behind any crates as needed, and shoot the propane tanks on the sides of the hallway as explosives to kill the aliens with. When you make your way all the way around, you will find a room with an anti-aircraft cannon in it. Kill all the aliens circling around the cannon, and then get on it to end this chapter.

Hippy-Stomper Duke Nukem Forever Achievement

June 26, 2011 By SLee Leave a Comment

Hippy-Stomper AchievementThe Duke Nukem Forever Hippy-Stomper Achievement requires the player to “foot stomp 12 aliens” and will give 20 gamer points when unlocked. Follow this brief achievement guide to find out the best way to unlock this Duke Nukem Forever Achievement.

You might be asking yourself: “How do I foot stomp an alien?” That’s an excellent question. To foot stomp an alien, the alien must be shrunk. In Duke Nukem Forever, you will encounter some aliens who are already shrunk, and other aliens you can shrink with the shrink ray gun. If you are shrunk too, you won’t be able to foot stomp them. You must be normal size.

When you are normal size and the alien is shrunk, run (push in on the left stick on Xbox 360) towards the alien, and look down to see Duke do a foot stomp.

The best chapter to do this is the Duke Burger. In one area of the Duke Burger, you will enter a room where there are many shrunk pig cops under cups. As I explained above, just run over them to give them a good foot stomp. There aren’t 12 of them in this room, though. To get the others, you will need to continue to the end of the Duke Burger mission.

At the end of the mission, you are on the roof of the Duke Burger waiting for evacuation. While you are waiting, a lot of alien ships keep coming and dropping of pig cops and other alien bad guys. If you look by the dead body on the roof, you can find a shrink ray gun. Use this shrink ray gun on the aliens that are dropped off to attack you, run over them like I described, and you will easily unlock the Duke Nukem Forever Hippy-Stomper Achievement.
